New Poomsae

Hi Guys

They are going to change the white 10and white 9 Poomsae.
So you all attend the cousre, lean from them 1st.

Two poomsae, Combined Basic Movements for White 10 and Basic Taegeuk for White 9, will be replaced next year by Introductory Taegeuk and Preliminary Taegeuk respectively.

Following feedback from Ng Hwa Ann, STF Grading Chairman and several coaches that the white belt poomsae are difficult to teach especially to children below 6 years old, Lim Teong Chin, STF Chief Examiner, created the two new poomsae and presented them to the other senior examiners – Steven Soh, Chin Khee Shin, R Jeyaraman, Wong Liang Ming and Tan Cheng Hui – for their consideration.

All of them agreed that the poomsae are not only easy to teach and learn but also more meaningful.For example, the first pattern ends with a ‘kihap’ while adopting the ‘kyorugi chunbi’position to promote preparedness, courage and confidence

If you want to have a thorough understanding of the two new poomsae and learn the steps, you should attend the course which will be held as follows.

Safely Equipments for Green Belt above:
Wear shin and forearm guards are optional, But groin guards are compulsory for all male candidates doing sparring (Green Belts above). They will not be allowed to take the grading if they do not have their groin guards. Candidates are solely responsible to ensure their own safety rule is observed.
Female candidates are encouraged to wear groin guards too. However, they are not mandatory.
Do collect GI(Uniform) of $55 from them.

Singapore Taekwondo Federation will be organizing the Taekwondo Spectacular in conjunction with the Korea Festival 2008. The show will be held as follows.

Demonstration : Taekwondo Spectacular – Don’t Miss It

The Korea Festival 2008 comprising all aspects of Korean culture – from traditional to contemporary – will kick off on 1 November 2008. There will be eight events. Five of which are designed to appeal to a wider audience.

When you talk about Korean culture, you have to include taekwondo – Korea’s gift to the world.

Working closely with the Korean Embassy, the Singapore Taekwondo Federation will be organizing the Taekwondo Spectacular in conjunction with the Korea Festival 2008. The show will be held as follows.
• Date : Sunday 9 November 2008
• Time : 7.30 pm
• Venue: Toa Payoh Sports Hall

The Taekwondo Spectacular will feature electrifying performances by both the Korean Demonstration Team and the Singapore National Demonstration Team. It promises to give spectators a breathtaking visual treat for their entertainment pleasure.

Note: Try not to give unnecessary works up for them. The schedule and timing are not necessary must be follow, just a guideline for you all to train and preparing them for the next grading. For the last two weeks be for the grading use the week 5 and 6 We have total about 11 weeks.

Grading Matters

HI All just take note for grading matters.

Repeat Performance:

With effect from next grading in October 2008, the examiners will no longer ask candidates to perform their poomsae again.The decision to repeat a performance will be left to the candidates.

If the candidates want to do their poomsae again for any reasons, they can do so at their own discretion.All candidates are allowed three attempts.If they cannot perform their poomsae satisfactorily after the third attempt, they will not be granted a pass.

Confirmation of Grades:

For confirmation test, candidates are required to perform the grading requirement for a grade lower – for example, a candidate taking confirmation test for Blue 4 has to perform the requirement for promotion from Green 5 to Blue 4.The candidate may wear his blue belt during the confirmation test.

Examiners will not grade confirmation test candidates if they come prepared with the wrong poomsae – for example, a Blue 4 candidate has to perform Sa-jang for his confirmation.But he knows only O-jang.The candidate will not be allowed to take the test.

Plain White T-Shirt:

Females candidate are reminded to wear their dobok over a plain white T-shirt.They will automatically fail if they wear other than plain white T-shirt.

Sparring Partners:

Clubs are allowed to arrange sparring partners for their candidates.All clubs are encouraged to do so in the interest of their members.

Principle of Assessments:

Assessments of performance will be based on progression of techniques (poomsae) and skills and tactics (kyorugi) – for example, a grade 1 candidate cannot expect to pass if he cannot perform white belt skills properly.More skills and tactics are expected from 1st dan candidate than, say, grade 1 candidate.

The Grading is on 5th Oct 2008.
Last day of submission on 10th Sept 2008.
And for Modular grading.


In view of the new grading requirements, the modular grading has been adjusted as follows.
· 1st poom to 2nd poom
- Modular 1 can be taken 6 months after promotion
- Modular 2 can be taken 3 months after Modular 1
- Modular 3 can be taken 3 months after Modular 2
· 2nd poom to 3rd poom
- Modular 1 can be taken 9 months after promotion
- Modular 2 can be taken 9 months after Modular 1
- Modular 3 can be taken 6 months after Modular 2
Those going for modular grading must not exceed 15 years old when they register for their first module.
There is no modular grading for 3rd to 4th poom.

Grading Matters.
The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) grading officials noted that a few female candidates were NOT wearing white T-shirts with their ‘dobok’ as required by the grading regulations. They were put in a difficult position as they could not rectify the situation without disrupting the smooth running of the grading procedure.
With effect from the next centralized grading, female candidates wearing other than plain white T-shirts will automatically fail their grading.

The examiners and grading officials reserve the rights not to inform candidates that they have flouted the uniform rule. It is the responsibility of the coaches and candidates to ensure that they are properly attired for the grading.

Coaches, who are assisting in the grading, are reminded that they should wear white taekwondo shoes (with or without stripes) with their ‘dobok’. It is not presentable and appropriate to wear any other types of shoes with the ‘dobok’. Alternatively, coaches should be barefooted.

The STF appreciates the co-operation of all coaches and candidates in making the grading a success.

Training the military way
Using traditional training methods ( i.e duck walk, pushups etc)
Name calling

Carrying a cane as a threat
Allow sparring under unequal conditions ( i.e allowing an adult candidate to spar with a children candidate, or 1 black belts againts 2 young and smaller size poom belts)

Instructors Responsibility

Instructors must:
be aware that ther are their students’role model
inform students of their grading schedule
make sure that the candidates know who is their instructors and which club they belong to (name and where is their club)
send candidates who are reading for grading
ensure that candidates are properly attire during grading (i.e equal belt length, plain white t-shirt for female candidate and no t-shirt allow for male candidate, unless on medical condition)
ensure candidates to take care of teir grading cards (do not use it as a fan, fold, bite or using the feets/ toes to hold the cards)
coach/ instructors/ commanders to inform examiners of candidate’s disabilities, difficulties or disadvantages during the grading ( i.e candidates having some illnesses or disabilitity that will hinder the movements)
allows the examiners to make independent decisions (do not tell the examiner who to pass or who to fail)
observe candidates performances to identify their faults and to correct them during training after the grading
remind candidates to bow to the commander (if the club do not bow, it will be penalize)
explain to the candidates that the number of times the examiners asked them to repeat their performances, are for the examiners to satisfy themselves that the candidates deserve the results (i.e giving them second chance or to confirm whether to give them double promotion, even those who did once but did not reach the requirements will still fail – mostly gone case type)
instructors are reminded that, there will be “photographers” – be it from the Federation or parents, to identified the perfomances and behaviours of candidates and instructors

Grading Information

Confirm/ approval of grades will depend on the type of certifications:

Overseas Certificates
o Kukkiwon/ NSA/ Clubs (with 2 signatory – grade for grade, with 1 signatory – need confirmation)
ITF/ GTF/ STA Certificates ( Confirmation needed – to wear same grade belts but to perform one grade down pattern and its requirements)
STG Certificate ( Start from White Belt irregardless of belts)

Safety Equipments

Groin guard for Male
o Compulsory from Green Belts onwards
Shin/ forearm guards
o Compulsory from Grade One onwards
Mouth Piece (Optional)
Groin guard for Female (Optional)

Dan Certification for 15-years Old Candidate

With Immediate effect, all successful 15-years old candidates will be awarded Dan Certification in line with Kukkiwon regulations.
Those holding Poom Certification may apply for conversion to Dan on reaching 15-years of age.
From next grading onwards (July 2008), will go Dan grading. (Awaiting for more information from the Fedearation)

Sparring

Each round of sparring will last 20 seconds to 1 minute.
It is up to the discretion of the examiners
Clubs sending grade one and higher candidates for grading are expected to arrange for sparring partners for their candidates
If no arrangements is made, the examiners will decide on what they deem appropriate.

Grading Preparation

STF conducts grading preparation workshop to help candidates understand:

their responsibilities,
their instructors’responsibilties, and
the examiners expections
encourages candidates to atttend

Examiners Expectation

Poomsae

All Grade One candidates must be able to perform at least 7 of the following basic tehniques correctly and the rest of the movements fairly accurately to pass their poomsae test.

Fist formation
Knife-hand formation
Natural stance
Forward stance
Back stance
Low-section forearm block
Middle-section inward block (new)
Midde-section knife-hand block
Middle-section punch
Front kick (using ball of the foot)
Side kick
Turing kick

Sparring

Examiners will look out for skills and not the ability to ‘kill’each other
Candidates going for 1st Poom or Dan or higher grades must demonstrate intelligent sparring and not ‘blind’ kicking and punching
The examiners will be more lenient to those 30 years and older candidates going for 1st or 2nd Dan

groin guards

Hi All

Remind the students(male) to get themseft the groin guard, at any sports shop.

Safety Equipment
Wear shin and forearm guards are optional, groin guards are compulsory for all male candidates doing sparring. They will not be allowed to take the grading if they do not have their groin guards. The instructors and candidates are solely responsible to ensure that this safety rule is observed.
Female candidates are encouraged to wear groin guards too. However, they are not mandatory

Please submit with the following detail:
1) One photocopied of Poom Cert,
2) One photocopied of IC (Front and Black),
3) Two Passport photo (A4).
4) SGD $25.00

Please submit to me asap, before I submit the Grading.
Or you have to wait before next submission of Grading time.
(3 months, January, April, July and October).
The conversion date, is in two years time for your 2nd Dan.
The Early you submit the Faster you get.
But only your age reach 16yrs>.
Those who still <15yrs, so you have WLL.
